Christening Gifts:  Welcoming the Baby into the Family

Christenings are not just the process of naming the baby for most people; it is a religious event and a very important part of family traditions. A baby christening is usually seen as a time for families to come together and officially welcome the new member of the family.
Welcoming the new member of the family is a memorable event that requires special gifts that the baby could enjoy when he or she is old enough to appreciate them. There are many christening gifts available in the market but it would be a good idea to give something that is personalized. A personalized gift could be something with the baby’s name or pictures on it.

Some ideas of personalized christening gifts are a baby scrapbook complete with pockets and some memorabilia from the day the baby was delivered. You can ask for materials from the mother to use in the scrapbook. Another good idea for personalized christening gift could be a teddy bear blanket that the baby could use for sleeping. You can hand sew the edges of the blank and put a small teddy bear on one end to make it more cuddly.

For people who do not have time to make their own gift for the baby, there are shops that specialize on christening gifts. These shops offers engraving of the baby’s name on the item you buy to make the gift more personal. If you are a close family member, offer to buy the christening candle, which will be used during the ceremony. In most religious families, christening candles are usually saved by the family to be lighted during the baby’s first birthday so your gift would not only be used for the christening but also on the baby’s first birthday. However, if somebody have already beaten you to the christening candle, try to the christening keepsake frame where the family could keep the baby’s best christening picture and the baptismal certificate issued by the your church.
